South Orangetown Middle School

Congratulations to eighth-grader Danny A., the South Orangetown Middle School New York Jets Upstander of the Week!

“I didn’t expect this,” Danny said when he arrived at the SOMS main office. “It’s kind of nice that our school does this to recognize people who do good around the school.”

Here’s what Danny’s teachers wrote in their nomination: “Danny is an outgoing young man who is always ready with a kind word for anyone. He is popular with other students because of his kindness to all. In a class setting, he will quietly help anyone he sees that may be stuck or having a hard time and will stick up for anyone being teased. He will do that in a matter-of-fact, relaxed way, not making a big deal of it, but making the other student feel better. He has a good sense of self. He does not seem to let others pull him down but focuses on being positive and helping other students feel the same. He is a terrific role model for others.”

In addition to school-wide recognition over the public announcement system, Danny received a Jets Tackle Bullying t-shirt, and three tickets and a parking pass for the December 15 Jets vs. Texans game.
