South Orangetown Middle School

For the ninth consecutive year, the South Orangetown Middle School and Tappan Zee High School Italian Clubs and Italian Honor Society members performed the Tarantella at the Rockland Lodge Sons of Italy Italian Feast at the German Masonic Grounds in Tappan on September 16. The traditional dance has its roots in Italy’s Apulia region.

The performance began with student dancers, who invited spectators to join in. By the second round of the Tarantella, more than 200 students and community members were dancing together. “While some TZHS seniors who have been participating in the event since sixth grade expressed their sadness at their last performance, younger students were already talking about next year’s dance and the friends they would invite,” reported TZHS Italian Club and Italian Honor Society advisor Tricia Castelli. “Arrivederci al 2019!”
