South Orangetown Middle School

“You lead with an open heart and work to be inclusive. You lead by showing respect and kindness,” noted South Orangetown Middle School Principal Karen Tesik in her remarks at this morning’s Eighth-Grade Moving Up Exercises. In fact, from taking the lead on The Butterfly Project to remember those who perished in the Holocaust to creating “memory-in-a-bottle” artwork for residents of Dowling Gardens, SOMS’ eighth-grade class has distinguished itself for its efforts to make the world better for everyone.

Eighth-graders were recognized for their academic, artistic and leadership achievements, and student leaders led the Pledge of Allegiance (Ruby B. and Logan F.), delivered the Welcome Speech (April M.) and offered the Thank You and Invitation message (Kara D. and Monica R). As always, the SOMS Band gave a standout performance.

Dr. Tesik presented the SOMS Class of 2018 to Tappan Zee High School Principal Jennifer Amos, marking their official transition to ninth-graders and the TZHS Class of 2022!
