Sixth-grader Elis R. is South Orangetown Middle School’s Upstander for Week 5! An Upstander is a student who speaks up and steps in to help those who are being bullied. Staff members describe Elis as someone who “is always willing to help others and goes the extra mile to be a great student and friend.”
SOMS is participating in the New York Jets and Stomp Out Bullying’s Upstander of the Week program, which aims to reduce and prevent bullying nationwide. For each of the 16 weeks of the season, schools submit a photo and description of a student who demonstrates what it means to be an Upstander.
