Classroom update/news

Our class has been working very hard these past 9 days. In ELA, we have been talking about how reading is thinking, choosing just right books, having read alouds, buzzing, independent reading, and so much more. In math, we have begun our place value unit. We have been reviewing ones, tens, hundreds and thousands, writing numbers in standard form, expanded form and reading word form. We have been using units, rods, flats and cubes blocks and drawing them too to illustrate a number. Math centers are especially fun. Ask your child about their center. In writing, we have been writing about our family, friends (real and imaginary), our weekends, summer vacation, favorite sleep toy, and more writing to come. We began switching for Science and Social Studies. Mrs. Allen has begun world geography. So, start studying the continents, oceans, the cardinal directions, hemispheres, and know the continent, country, state you live in/on and your address and phone number. In Science, we have begun talking about the properties of matter and the 5 senses. Can you name the 5 senses? Are you made up of matter? What is matter?
We are very proud of our students for all their hard work. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend and see you Wednesday!!!
