On Wednesday, we went to Philipsburg Manor to learn about life long ago. Before the trip, we learned about what life was like before we (or even our parents and grandparents) were alive. We read books and looked at photographs of Philipsburg Manor.
We started by thinking about what we might see on our trip. We recorded our thinking with words and pictures.
Then we thought about the questions that we had and recorded them as well. Ms. Stern typed some of our ideas and questions on the Smartboard.
We went to four different places while we were at Philipsburg Manor. They were: the manor house, the activity house, the animal station, and the mill. We had so much fun! After we went to all of the stations, the class walked back around the lake and we ate our snacks at the picnic tables before getting on the bus to come back to school.
We had a few minutes before it was time to go to lunch. Together, we brainstormed important words and things that we saw and learned on the trip. Then we revisited our chart from the day before. We revised our thinking and looked over our questions to see if they were answered.
We also reflected on the trip and thought about 3 different ideas: what we saw, what we learned, and questions we still have.
