Today we made pumpkin glyphs.  A glyph is like a code.  It gives us information. 

Our glyphs tell a little about us and what we do and like for Halloween. 

These are the parts of our glyph:

The body tells about our age: horizontal is an even number and vertical is an odd number.

The eyes tell what we do with our families on Halloween: trianges mean we go trick-or-treating, circles mean we have a party at home, and squares mean we stay at home. 

The nose gives information about our costumes.  A trapezoid tells that our costume is scary, a diamond means it is funny, a triangle is a character, and a circle is none of those.

The mouth shows how we feel about Halloween: sem-cirlces mean we love it, ovals mean we like it, and zig zags mean we don’t like Halloween.

The stem has stripes if we are wearing a mask and is plain if we are not.

The number of leaves show what our favorite Halloween candy is: 1 leaf means chocolate, 2 leaves means lollipops, and 3 leaves means we like gum the most.

When our glyphs were done, we shared our work and collected data.  Here’s what we learned:

Age-16 people are an even number and 3 are an even number

Masks-7 people have masks and 12 do not

Favorite candy-13 people like chocolate best, 3 like lollipops, 2 like gum

Our feelings about Halloween-11 people LOVE Halloween, 7 LIKE Halloween, and 1 DOESN’T LIKE Halloween

What we do on Halloween-15 people go trick-or-treating, 0 have a party, 4 go trick-or-treating AND have a party, 0 stay home
