The WOS Makerspace is officially open and classes have begun! Our space includes Thin Client computers, iPads, Chromebooks, tables and space to collaborate and create. But, without a doubt, the most important tools and resources we have in this space are our brains! This year will be about exploration, creativity, collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, and communication. Mistakes are expected and embraced, as we recognize that they help our brains to grow and learn!
During our first sessions together, we are being introduced to the Makerspace, completing the STAR assessment, and working on a paper chain challenge. The task: using one piece of paper, 1 glue stick, 1 pair of scissors, 1 minute to plan, and 5 minutes to work, what is the longest paper chain that each table can create?
After completing the challenge, the children are asked to reflect on their experiences and identify successes/things that they would keep the same as well as what they have learned or would plan on changing if they were to complete this challenge again.
What were some successes and challenges that you had? What would you change?
