What is the Hour of Code?
The Hour of Code is a one hour introduction to computer science. It takes place every year during Computer Science Education Week, the first week in December. It began as a coding challenge to give students a fun first introduction to computer science and has become a global learning event, celebration, and awareness event.
There are hundreds of one hour activities on HourofCode.com in over 48 languages for kindergarten and up. Activities require no experience and can run on browsers, tablets, and smartphones. Some “unplugged” activities don’t require any computers at all.
We are fortunate that we will have much longer than one hour to explore coding at William O. Schaefer! This is the beginning of an exciting few months that will focus on coding and developing problem solving strategies to program and debug algorithms across different platforms.
First and Second Graders, let’s get started!
This year’s theme is Dance Party. Try some of the puzzles to select music, characters, backgrounds, and dance moves. Time to get creative!
