Today we had a super Super Bowl themed day. 11 people came to school wearing sporting attire! Most of the class (8 people in all) wore Giants jerseys–with pride! 2 people wore Jets clothing, 1 wore a Colts jersey, and 1 person brought me back to my college days with a Red Sox shirt.
We made predictions as to who we think is going to win the Super Bowl and graphed our choices. Everyone included a guess as to what the score may be. (Red represents people who think the 49ers will win. Purple represents people who think the Ravens will win.)
In all, 11 people think the San Francisco 49ers will win and 8 people are in favor of Baltimore.
We "kicked" around some Fundations word work by working in groups to brainstorm words with different skills that we have been practicing.
Each table had a chance to build on the group/groups before them as we cycled through all four of the papers.
Working in partners, the children played "Football Frenzy: Race to 100." They took turns rolling a die and adding up their numbers to see who would be the first to reach 100 (sort of like Pig, only with one turn per person and not chances of returning to zero!).
A few children brought in footballs to play with at lunch.
At the end of the day, we read Go to Sleep, Groundhog! in preparation for Groundhog Day tomorrow. Then we made our predictions as to whether or not Punxsutawney Phil is going to see his shadow.
What do you think? Will the groundhog see its shadow? Is Spring just around the corner? Who do you think will win the Super Bowl?
