A tradition is something that a family does on a regular basis and is often passed down from generation to generation.
Some families have similar traditions and some families have traditions that are unique. Some traditions are old and some traditions are newly created. For example, many people celebrate the same holidays but do so in different (or sometimes similar) ways. Do you have traditions that have to do with your ethnicity, culture, or religion? Are there special ways that you celebrate birthdays, lost teeth, or other important events in a person’s life?
Please talk with your child about traditions you have maintained throughout your life and new traditions that you have started and continued with your children. This should be a wonderful time of family sharing and remembering. Leave 1 tradition and explanation per comment but feel free to leave as many comments as you'd like! Feel free to share photographs of these traditions (by linking or emailing them to me and I will post them).
Thank you for participating!
We celebrate half birthdays. We have cake and a small present that feels special to us. hope
What a terrific idea! That must be so much fun having 2 really special days just for you!
For Thanksgiving, my mom and dad invite our entire family to our house every year. My cousins Emie and Kloie live in Florida but there grandarents always come. For Easter, my grandpa takes me and my sister to church to have our easter baskets and eggs blessed. We always take a picture before we go inside.
Sofia, you know how much I love to take pictures! It will be really neat to look back and see how you have grown and changed when you are older! Do you like when the house is filled with relatives for Thanksgiving?
On Christmas Eve we go to my aunt's house for a christmas party. My cousins are there and we all wear matching pajamas.
We have dinner and cake and open presents on Christmas Eve with Granny and Papa. Then we go to our friends the Woods' house for more deserts!
Every Christmas Eve my whole family goes to my Aunt's house. We all eat dinner and lots of yummy deserts. Then we open presents. After the presents, my cousin, Abby, and me eat Christmas lollipops. My Uncle plays the guitar and we all sing beautiful Christmas songs. I love Christmas. Merry Christmas, everyone!
Every year at Hanukkah, we have a party at our house. We decorate the house in a special way. My grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins come over to celebrate. We eat latkes and donuts and play dreidel games. We give one another a thoughtful gift.
Every year when camp is over I go to Avalon, NJ. I go to the beach and the pool. My friends Jackson and Jameson live there all summer. I eat ice cream every night and play mini golf. I sleep in a bunk bed at night.
