This morning we took a trip to the computer lab to meet Mrs. McBride, a teacher who comes to our school on Mondays and works with other teachers and students.  Mrs. Nerkizian told us that she is VERY nice and she is also VERY smart…and because she is so smart, she brings lots of creative and interesting ideas to our school.

What we did:
We made a book for our families using a website called Artisan Cam.  We wrote about stuff that we were grateful for.  We put pictures in our books.  We had to play around and click on stuff to see what happens.  There were different animals and backgrounds and things like trees.  You click on the picture that showed what you wanted to use.  We wrote words.  You had to click on a pencil and then click on the spot where you wanted to write.  Then you had to touch the letters to spell the words.  We made a cover and a back cover.

Challenges:
*Shrinking the animals-Hope
*I thought the alphabet would have been in order but it’s not. –Sophia
*When I was trying to write, I thought I had to write with the pencil. –Daniel
*Dragging some stuff.  I would have 2 of something instead of 1. –Allison
*There were a lot of actions.  You don’t know which one you want because there were a lot. –Patrick
*Dragging the stuff into the trash can.  When I clicked on it, it wouldn’t go in the trash can. –Kobi
*Changing the background-Nicole
*When you had to type your name on the front cover. –Jack
*The letters were over to the side when you started typing. -Ashley

Our new learning:
You change the size of objects by moving the line in between the two arrows.  –Logan
Move to the left to shrink any object (no matter which one) and move to the right to make it bigger. –Jack
You could make stunts in your pictures by using the actions button.  I made a penguin on its belly while it was skateboard.  I was wondering if the pictures could be turned and I finally got it turned on its side. –Daniel
We don’t need to pay for love! You can do things that are nice.  It makes people happy. –Olivia
If you make the picture smaller, it looks like it is farther away. –Alex P.

Questions we still have:
Q: Is it on all computers or just in the lab?
A: It is on any computer that has internet access!

Q: If you use a laptop and don’t have a mouse, how do you change the size of things?
A: Use the left click button on the bottom of the keypad.

What are some ideas that you would like to use the picture book maker for?  Leave your ideas in the comments or share how you used the site at home!
