This morning we were fortunate to meet the author of the Biscuit and Katy Duck series of books, Alyssa Capucilli. She talked to us about her inspiration behind the first Biscuit book, how she writes, and even how her books are made.
We discovered lots of similarities between her and us. These are some of the ways that we are the same:
- We both like to write.
- We write about things that happen to us or events in our lives.
- We all publish our writing.
- We enjoy drawing.
- We enjoy reading.
- We plan before we write (Alyssa uses her “treasure keeper” and we use graphic organizers or tell our stories across our hands).
Here are the big ideas that we have after listening to Alyssa Capucilli speak:
If you erase an idea you will never have it again! She was inspired by her dog, Huckleberry. We have to use our imagination to write. The only difference is his name in the book. -Lee
I learned that she planned her book in her treasure. It takes two hours. They print the story out. The printer is so big. She loves making books. -Eden
If you erase your idea, you will never think about it again. She was inspired with her daughter. When she got a dog she wanted to call it Biscuit but they said NO. They called it Huckleberry. -Tori
We publish. She publishes. We write. She writes. She likes to write. We like to write. She writes different books and characters. She got the idea of Biscuit books from her daughter. Someone else writes in different languages. It takes two years or more to write a story. -Jamie
Somebody translates. She writes in English. Somebody draws the pictures for her. She can write in a book. She can write books. -Hayden
She was inspired by her daughter. The machine for making the books were big. It makes one big piece of paper. And on the piece of paper is one whole book. It takes two years to make a book. -Farrah
I learned that you can write in different languages. We both like to write. We both like to read. We plan before we write. We both publish our writing. We both write about things that happened to us. We enjoy drawing. She called her notebook a treasure keeper. -Holly
She got inspired by her daughter. She did not just write Biscuit books. Her daughter helped make the illustrations. It takes two years to make the books. She gets the ideas by going places. She decided to name the dog Biscuit because he is yellow. She makes different characters. -Julia
