As part of our first math unit, the children have been working on collecting and sorting data on the Smartboard and using manipulatives such as attribute blocks and “treasures” (buttons, screws, shells, and creepy crawlers).
Click on the video below to see how two children chose to sort their shells using a single attribute.
With sorting in place, our next step is to
display or graph our data. We are working on reading bar graphs and asking and answering questions about the data as well as making comparisons. We will continue to work on graphing using bar and pictographs and tally charts.
Megan sorted her Skylanders. She sorted them into eight different groups.
There is 5 in the tech group, 2 in the undead group, and 2 in life group, 1 in fire, 2 in magic, 2 in water, and 1 in the air group.
Megan sorted silverware in the drawer. There are 12 knives, 13 forks, and 15 spoons. This game is fun.
