Happy Tuesday.  We had an assembly and showed each other Empathy.  In Social Studies we are learning about New York and we are sending directions to Wedosh our pen pal on how to reach where we live.  Every morning we have a Mindful Moment.  In the Mindful Moment we think about how we want to feel and how we want others to feel.  We have just read the book Sticks, written and illustrated by Diane Alber.  It is about a popsicle that melts and only the stick remains.  The stick now thinks he is nothing, but other sticks show him what he can become.  In the end it joins other sticks to make a birdhouse.  We learned you can become something you think you are not.

We have been reading Tiger Rising.  The main character is Rob, who gets bullied, and doesn’t stand up for himself.  Then a new girl came.  Her name is Sistine.  She is really feisty and stands up for herself.

Happy Friday.  This week Miss Mueller came to our classroom and talked about Empathy and walking a mile in each other’s shoes.  Ms. Ayn from Stage Left came and worked on face and body movements.  We learned that “Acting informs writing, and writing informs acting.”  Mrs. McBride worked on on a fun activity using rebus puzzles with some classmates.  Finally, our class and Mr. Krump’s, the McViola’s, and Mr. Haggerty’s class played Human Bingo to get to know new friends.  It was a fun “Start with Hello” week at Cottage Lane Elementary.

For homework tonight we will be working on prime and composite numbers. I  have asked a few kids to see what they think about what’s good that’s happening in class.  Brianna said, “Everyone’s working together.”  Emma said, “We’ve been learning a lot of math the past few weeks.”  Isham said, “Making friends.” Penelope said, “No bullying,” and Vivian said, “We’re all listening and following directions.”  Today, Sep. 23 2019 we planted our Pin Wheels For Peace.

Day 10 and we’ve already learned so much!  In math we learned some important words such as dimensions and expressions.  We had an assembly about Empathy and what it means to have empathy for each other.

Class 109 takes care of two planters in which we planted mums.  We will be working with Ms. Ayn from Stage Left on skits.  This work will improve our writing as we learn to develop characters and our stories’ plot.

Room 109 has been working on a Class Charter expressing how we want to feel in our classroom–such as safe and unpressured.  We will adopt the charter by writing all of our signatures on the charter.

We all have made friends, new and old, the past few days.  Let’s see if we can keep it up for the next 170 days!

It would be wonderful if you too would comment on the events of the week and share any new learning that you took away. Blog on girls! 🤩
