The 7th graders will become proficient in identifying nutrients associated with the food groups, the Recommended Dietary Allowance of each food group, and the dangers of sugar and fat. From there, they will keep a three day food journal and through their own self-analysis determine which foods groups need to be increased or decreased. Since ChooseMyPlate.gov recommends that half our plate should be fruits and vegetables, they may be delighted to learn they can have a surplus in these food groups.
