March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD.) “It is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. Down Syndrome International (DSi) encourages friends all over the world to raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.” Watch this link – WE ARE MORE ALIKE THAN DIFFERENT
Michael Jack is my nephew. He loves me (not my dog) and Villanova basketball. Please sign the pledge (as a class or with your parents) to End The R-word here. This video explains why you should stop and encourage others to do the same – END THE R-Word
To help spread awareness wear#LotsOfSocks! But not just any socks…
…wear official #LotsOfSocks socks, other brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock… even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes. Wear something people will ask you about so that you can tell them all about WDSD and not to use the R word.
And one last video to warm your heart on this snow day …
I learned by watching this video that the R word should be removed. It can be a very hurtful word.
It is hurtful and no one should use it or write even. Even when they are “just kidding.”
The video with all the kids and moms really touched my heart and it is true we are more alike than different
So true!
This video is fantastic. All the kids are so cute.I will never say the “R” word ever. Every kid should be treated the same. I will always remember World Down Syndrome Day!!!
Thanks, Jack! March 21st! 🙂
People with down syndrome are just like us. The “r” word can have a big impacted on someone so I’m not going to use the word again.
Thanks, Oscar!

Brendan, you should lead the cause next year at SOMS. Get a few students, teachers and administrators to make it a day!
I loved the video! I think we should treat those kids just the same! I will not use the r-word ever again! Thank you for reminding all of us for being nice to these kids!
Thanks, Hela! Be nice to them and others. Sit with others who are alone at lunch or even this class if you are allowed. Kindness goes a long way!.
I loved the video it was so amazing! I learned that kids with down syndrome are always so happy I wish I had the energy and confidence as them. They inspire me so much, and now I know we are all different:)
Me too!

Thanks, Ryan!
this video is very inspiring. kids down syndrome should be treated with respect
I hope so, Addison.
Watching this video I realized that these kids are more alike than different than us and some people just don’t realize it. I feel like these kids are such a inspiration, through all they do people say mean things like the r-word and I think that is wrong and the kids should not let it get to them because they are strong independant people that should ignore anything bad that is said about them.I want to help by taking the r-word out of my vocabulary.
Thanks, Madison!
even though they look different,I realized that there could like the same exact thing and have the same dreams. #we are not that different
#loveit
This is very inspiring to me. And one word could really hurt someone! Even though they are different they are still humans.
So true, Jillian!
You know I never knew one video could so many hearts. This video is so powerful than the strongest boxers punch.
“Having a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness.”
I have a friend that has down syndrome and i don’t see him any different than I would someone who didn’t have. My sister hangs out and helps cove kids whenever she can. I want to do the same thing but, I don’t know how to approach them.
Dear Alex, You are lucky to have a friend with DS. And your sister is an angel for helping COVE kids. Ask your guidance counselor how you can start to help.
wow i didn’t know we are so much alike.
more alike, than different!
Watching this video, I learned that Kids with down syndrome are just like us. People should not use the r-word, they should be nice. I think this video was very inspiring to everybody!
Thanks Ila! Being nice goes a long way.
People with down syndrome are not different than everyone else. No one should be calling them the “r” word.
Nicole, you sound like a great advocate. Thanks!
I really hope that people with be more responsible and trash the “R” word. Each person should realize that we are more the same than different. These people are the best people alive.
Help spread the word, Nolan!
Hey ms mcbride its me justin from 5th grade math olympiads, and I really enjoyed watching this video, and it motivated me to socialize with other kids who have a disability like down syndrome and I think that all kids who have a disability should be treated equally.
Great to hear from you Justin! Thank you for reaching out to these students. Your kindness will be repaid ten-fold.
I loved the video of the kids with down syndrome and their moms. It was very cute and made me happy.
I’m glad it made you happy. Spending time with these kids will make you even happier!
This video is amazing, it really showed me that just because the people look different, doesn’t mean they’re different. Hopefully more people realize this and start to take notice to the movement to end the R-word.
With your help, Shayan, anything can happen.
This video really touched my heart and i think that we should remove the r-word because this word can be really hurtful. I think that kids with down Syndrome are always so happy and should be treated with respect.
Thanks, Vanesa!
The video is very inspiring because people with down syndrome are exactly like us but just a little different,so we should treat them like other kids. Now I realize how powerful the r-word is and how it affects other people.
So glad you learned from this, Kate. Help spread the word!
I think the R-word is a horrible, and should never be used! Kids with disabilities are the sweetest kidds i have ever met.

Hi Mrs. McBride!! This video is so touching. I almost cried. I remember last year in your classroom you had posters all over your room that had the letter r on it with a line across it. I never knew what it meant until the last week of school. This was the best video I ever watched!
Thanks for making the connection, Sarah! Please help spread the word!
