Students in Mrs. McBride’s classes participated in the SIFMA Foundation’s Stock Market Game™ (SMG). SMG gave students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an on-line portfolio. Students experienced economic and financial concepts that they’ll use for the rest of their lives. The program reinforced essential skills and concepts: critical thinking, decision-making, cooperation and communication, independent research, saving and investing. Students used real internet research and news updates, making the simulation an even better mirror of the real marketplace.

Molly C., Alex C., Sofia F., Louis F., Nora K. (not pictured) and Cassie W. were the winners!  Their total equity was valued at $121,303.84 which gave them 2nd place out of 128 teams in their division. These students purchased stocks in Panera, Facebook, Amazon and Apple which gave them a 21.30 percent return on their investments.   While the competitive game created student excitement, the educational experience delivered the biggest impact. These 5th graders were keenly aware of the world around them and used this information to make good investment decisions.
