What is COP21? The 21st United Nations Conference of the Parties, or COP21, which will begin in Paris today, aims to unite around 150 nations for a single agreement on tackling climate change. The idea is to cap the rate of global warming at 2 degrees Celsius – compared to the current 2.5 to 3.76 degrees Celsius. This will be done by, among other things, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and shifting towards cleaner energies such as wind or solar power.
Leaders are making promises on how their countries will reduce pollution. You can too!
Consider entering the JASON Learning Competition: Recycling is Bigger than the Bin.
All around us there are items that will not fit into that bin. Everything from bicycles to skyscrapers can potentially be recycled, but not in a blue bin. Your challenge is to choose an item that is “bigger than the bin” and find a way to recycle it! Then, create an original video or poster that tells us the story of how you recycled your chosen item. Your video or poster should educate and inspire others to think more carefully, and act differently, the next time they need to discard an item that is “bigger than the bin!”
I think it’s really cool and I want to help do my part in helping the environment.
Which part is really cool?
I hope these leaders can come to an agreement that will help us with climate change.
What do you believe should be in the agreement?
