Hello, my name is Miss Nandlal. I am a second grade teacher at William O’Schaefer Elementary School. I am so excited to be at WOS! I was at South Orangetown Middle School prior to teaching at WOS. At SOMS, I taught ELA and History (Ancient Civilizations).
Fun Fact About Me: I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in third grade. I had some really great teachers in elementary school and wanted to be just like them!
I know school has been pretty different lately. We are going to work hard to make it the best year yet! In class, we will be learning about a lot of new things in English, Math, Science, and my favorite, Social Studies. I really enjoy getting the community involved in our school. I love bringing in different guest speakers who happen to be some of my great friends who have really cool jobs.
At WOS, you can find me in my classroom. Outside of school, I’m usually spending time with my family, pet cat, Georgino, or involved with volunteering and fundraising for causes that are close to my heart. I also enjoy going to concerts and traveling the world.
More Fun Facts about Miss N: I LOVE music, playing tennis, and I am a brown belt in Karate. 😉
Parents: Some background information- I earned a M.S.Ed. in TESL and a B.S. in Elementary Education with a focus on Bilingual Multicultural Education. I was previously the Director of Operations at the Anti-Defamation League. I worked in the Education Division and helped with anti-bias/multicultural training in schools throughout the country.
After the ADL, I moved to the island of Puerto Rico. I was a student and a college professor at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. My elementary/middle school classroom teaching experience also started in Puerto Rico. I taught at a private international school on the island and at a charter school in Brooklyn. I have also taught adults and prepared them to take their GEDs/high school equivalency exam. So, in essence, I have been able to teach kindergarten all the way to adults! Before coming to WOS, I was a sixth grade teacher at South Orangetown Middle School for 4 years. I taught ELA and Ancient Civilizations. This is my third year at WOS and my 16th year of teaching. I am very excited to have your kids in my classroom. We are a family now. I am going to make it a year that they’ll never forget!
