Planet Project

Planet Project

Purpose

This activity will make you better acquainted with the 8 planets in our solar system and Pluto. It

will give you practice researching a topic and working with the program Power Point. Your grade will be

based on the attached fact sheet, oral presentation, visual presentation and daily points.

Assignment

Using the internet, books from the library, other library materials, and/or magazines, find the

information listed below on your planet. You will then create a Power Point presentation for the class.

This presentation should consist of at least 10 slides (1 being a bibliography) and address the following questions:

  1. What does the planet look like? Include a picture of the planet that shows features that can be found on the planet.
  1. Have we explored the planet? If so, what spaceships/satellites have been sent there?
  2. What features have been found on the planet? For example, does it have mountains, volcanoes, ice, thick atmosphere, size, rings, etc?
  1. What is the average temperature? High temperature? Low temperature?
  2. Does it have an atmosphere? What gases are present?
  3. How many moons does it have and what can you tell us about those moons?
  4. Is the planet named after a Roman or Greek god?
  5. How far away is the planet from the sun (in astronomical units- AU)?
  6. How long is the orbit (days, years)?
  7. How long is its spin/rotation (hours, days, years)?
  8. What are the diameter (km), mass (kg), and the density (g/cm3) of the planet?
  9. Other interesting information not included already.

Use the attached fact sheet to help you keep your information organized and record the information from the other presentations. This sheet should be filled out for your planet and during the other planet presentations. I will collect this from each of you.

Daily Participation– For this presentation you will receive points on a daily basis for meeting certain expectations each day

  1. Daily participation- 20 points
  2. See attached rubric for further grading.

How to begin

  1. We will spend 3-4 days in the computer lab. Get non-internet research done first. We will spend only 1 day in the classroom on laptops. You will use that day for final touches and rehearsal.
  1. SAVE AS A GOOGLE DOC!

CASIOPEA PROJECT

  1. Write down ALL sources of information that you use.
  2. Write down the answers to the questions listed above FOR YOUR PLANET plus FILL OUT THE ATTACHED TABLE FOR YOUR PLANET.
  3. Turn this into a PowerPoint presentation FOR YOUR PLANET ONLY
