Welcome back!

Today we will focus on a developing a technology goal for the 2015 – 2016 school year. Some of these goals may be new to you while others may seem familiar. Karen started this work last year during a staff meeting in which people looked at possible goals for this year.

Why choose a goal?

1) Focused time and effort: There are a lot of tools to use, let’s focus our attention on one or two that interest you and dedicate our time towards that item.

2) Targeted professional development: We will break into groups at times during the school year and schedule professional development time dedicated to your goal on a small group basis. (Example: 2 hour PD during the day using floater subs).

Goals

Enhancing your Web Presence
Find a workflow to easily keep your website up to date with classroom news and resources. Learn to use the mobile app to keep updates timely and current. Use new features to create dynamic pages with images and video. We will also look at the ability to push out your blog updates via email and social media automatically. Finally, we will look at creating resource folders in Google Apps that can be accessed from your website.

Online Student Interaction
Engage students in meaningful talk using your website. Learn to effectively utilize commenting and wiki features on your blog. We will also discuss the use of discussion forums for Book Clubs in ELA. Exploring the use of student blogs is also a possibility if someone has interest.

Using Google Apps with your Students
Develop individual or class activities that incorporate the use of Google tools. We will develop specific lessons that utilize Google Docs and Slides then use Google Classroom to organize completed student work.

Using Screencasts and Videos in the Classroom
Learn to create engaging and research based videos for your students to use as a tool for learning. We will explore the use of Screencast-o-matic, and iPad apps to create screencasts. We will also explore the use of iMovie to create featured classroom videos. Finally, we will organize the new content in Ensemble Showcases to get your work out to students and parents.
