Office Hours:

Office hours are held weekly before or after school by appointment only.

Supplies:

•Spiral Notebook

•Pens and Pencils

•Folder

•Homework Planner

•Highlighter

There will be a series of textbooks given out periodically throughout the year. Be sure to cover your books and leave them at home for reading and homework assignments. If textbooks are required for class use, you will be notified ahead of time.

Parent Portal and Class Website:

I encourage parents to check the parent portal often for test, quiz, project and homework grades. The class website is another great communication device that will be used. The website will be updated frequently with things like homework assignments, projects, test notification, and useful websites.

Grading:

Grades are based on a total point system.

Every homework, quiz, test, lab or project is worth a certain amount of points.

Point values for all work will be assigned by me based on the difficulty or length of time needed to complete an assignment, test, etc.

At the end of a quarter, the total amount of points earned divided by the total possible points becomes the quarter grade. For example, if you earn 950 points out of a total 1000 possible points, your grade will 95%.

All assignments will be recorded on the parent portal, and will be updated regularly.

Homework will only be accepted one day late for half credit.

Homework, Class work, and Participation:

Periodically class work will be collected and graded. Assignments will be given on a daily basis. This will allow students the opportunity to review, reinforce, and prepare for the classroom lesson on an independent basis.

Tests and Quizzes:

Quizzes may be given weekly.

Unit tests will be given approximately once per month. Unit tests will consist of multiple choice and short answer. Students will be tested on information from class work, homework, and laboratory work.

Projects and Reports Included in Lab Reports for Grading:

A minimum of one project or report will be assigned each quarter.

Use of the Homework Planner:

Homework Assignments should be written in the student planner on a daily basis. Long Term Projects with various due dates will be notes in the planner ahead of time. Test dates will be given in advance and should be recorded in planner.

6th Grade Science Student Expectations:

•In class on time and prepared

•Hand in Assignments on time to receive full credit. Late assignments will receive a lower grade

•Cooperate with others during group activities

•Attendance- Students are expected to have excellent attendance. If absent, a student will be required to make up work including class notes, homework, and labs in a timely fashion. It is suggested you exchange phone numbers with a classmate to obtain assignments when absent.
