Today we had a very special Memorial Day assembly at Cottage Lane. Each grade attended an assembly where we talked about our word of the month, patriotism, which was very fitting for today and this month. Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Nadler and their class shared some ways that our students can show their patriotism including attending local Memorial Day events. See below for some of these events. We were also very lucky to have Mr. and Mrs. Hodges attend. They are the parents of Sgt. Chris Hrbeck, who lost his life in Afghanistan. Mrs. Hodges spoke about her son and how much he loved his country and being a Marine. It was a special honor to have them come speak to us.

Each Cottage Lane class created a quilt in honor of a service member who we have lost, and these quilts will be sent to their families. Classes learned about their veteran, and created a quilt which they felt would really represent and honor their particular soldier. Please see our blog post about the assembly for a touching video of all 22 of Cottage Lane’s “adopted” veterans, as well as a video about why Memorial Day is important.
