On Saturday morning Mr. Tanenbaum, Mrs. McCarthy and many families from her third grade class took a hike to the top of Hook Mountain. It was a beautiful morning and a perfect day for counting birds- specifically hawks and vultures. We met two scientists at the top of the mountain who taught us about bird counting and their job as scientists. Saturday’s official counter was Danielle Gustafson, and and with her was Brad Klein, who spent a lot of time talking to us about how he volunteers as a bird counter, and about the birds in general. Thanks so much to Mr. Tanenbaum and Mrs. McCarthy for setting this up, and thanks to so many families for coming out to participate!
