Today we had the author Ralph Fletcher visit Cottage Lane. He met with all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. He talked to the students about where he gets his ideas for his books.  He shared that most of the ideas for his stories come from his own life. He shared excerpts from many of his books and spoke about the different genres that he has written. He told the students that the most important book that he has written that will never be published is his writer’s notebook.  He explained that a writer’s notebook is like a piggy bank, it’s where you store all of your ideas.  He left the students with three pieces of advice:

  1. Read! Read! Read! The more your read, the more you know!
  2. Get a notebook and write something every day!
  3. Be a kid! All great stories come from our life experiences!
