Last night, Cottage Lane Elementary School celebrated 230 fifth-graders who will be moving up to South Orangetown Middle School in September! The Fifth-Grade Chorus earned applause for performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “The Greatest Showman,” under the direction of Music Teacher Danelle Greene.
In her address, Principal Karen Ramirez advised students to remember Malala’s visit. “She said to do what you can, that empathy is key and that acts of generosity big or small make a difference,” Ms. Ramirez recalled. “Be kind, show empathy and compassion. Take care of each other, take risks together…you are your strongest when you work together.”
SOMS Principal Dr. Chad Corey welcomed the incoming sixth-graders, who have had the opportunity to visit the middle school this year. “The teachers at SOMS are excited to see you in September. We can’t wait to continue getting to know you and having you become part of our SOMS family,” he said.
SOCES PTA President Tiffany Morrison offered congratulations and encouragement, noting “You’ve been very well-prepared for the next leg of your journey.” Congratulations to SOMS’ incoming sixth-grade class!
