The Importance of celebrating Memorial Day
“The Poppy Lady,” written by Barbara Elizabeth Walsh tells the story of a woman named Moina Belle Michael. Mona Belle Elizabeth was a woman who dedicated her life to honoring the sacrifice and courage of American soldiers. She felt there needed to be a memorial symbol for the soldiers serving in the war. She raised money for the soldiers by selling poppy flowers for people to were in honor of the soldiers and was later given the nickname, “The Poppy Lady.” During the weeks before Memorial Day, veterans stand outside and sell poppies, raising millions for soldiers and their families.
