Fifth-graders from Cottage Lane Elementary School gathered in South Orangetown Middle School’s auditorium yesterday to learn about World Language and Music curriculum offerings for sixth-grade students.
Members of the SOMS Italian, Spanish and French Clubs performed skits highlighting historical and cultural information connected to the three languages for which instruction is offered. Field trips to Montreal, Canada and communities closer to home allow students to experience other cultures first-hand. Teachers will be sending World Language selection forms home today with fifth-graders; completed forms are due Monday, December 16.
Incoming sixth-graders will have the opportunity to continue their musical education at SOMS and were treated to performances by the Sixth-Grade Orchestra, Chorus and Band. SOMS students may choose to participate in both chorus and either orchestra or band. Depending on their choice of classes, students may have music daily or every other day.
