We will be performing at the Word of the Month assembly at the end of May. Our word of the month is friendship, so we decided to sing the song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. I have included the lyrics, as well as a good video to practice singing along to and the video with the dance we are learning. Feel free to practice at home!
Lyrics:
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah, you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got troubles, and I’ve got ’em too
There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you
We stick together and can see it through
‘Cause you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too, maybe
But none of them will ever love you
The way I do, it’s me and you, boy
And as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
Today, a few students and I tried something new at recess. We played hopscotch, but instead of putting numbers in the boxes, we put letters! Then we hopped from letter to letter to spell different words. We recorded the words we spelled next to it. It was fun and educational!
April’s word of the month is flexibility. Having a positive and hopeful attitude helps us to overcome challenges. When times are difficult or mistakes are made, it is important to stay motivated and be flexible. Being flexible helps us when we need to cope with changes. Flexibility helps us to think about problems in new, creative ways.
Overview: Flexibility is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

We have begun a new reading and writing units recently! In writing, we are focusing on writing realistic fiction stories. Students will then turn these stories into entire series! In reading, we are working on getting to know characters, retell books, and find the lessons in stories. Here are some charts we are using in the classroom to help us, in case you want to know what kind of language we use and what strategies we’re working on!
We had such a great response to our first shared reading, we decided to record another one! You can listen to our reading of Tumbleweed Stew by Susan Stevens Crummel below!
