Summer STEAM Camp

SOCSD launched its Summer STEAM Camp in July 2016 to provide enrichment programming for South Orangetown students in grades K-8. The annual, two-week, half-day summer program is led by school district faculty who develop exciting, hands-on projects in a variety of subject areas to engage campers in a fun, exploration-oriented environment.

  • No cost for families to participate

The core values of STEAM camp are to give students opportunities to dive deeper into STEAM topics that they would normally not get to during the school year. The topics extend from the school curriculum and reach beyond those projects we are capable of doing in larger groups. Therefore we will continue to maintain small class sizes no larger than 12 students. This is especially crucial in distance learning to make sure the teacher can attend to all of the students.

Students will have three 50 minute sessions 9:00-9:50, 10:00-10:50, 11:00-11:50. For each of these classes students will be required to log in to that teacher’s Zoom classroom. There, they will be given live instruction to take them through the project of the day. Material lists for each class will be given out beforehand so students will know what they need for the day. We will be providing some materials to participating students to make sure the STEAM camp experience is as comprehensive as possible.

Camper Registration & Selection
As in the past, we will be filling spots through a lottery system should we get more applicants than spaces we can fill. Therefore, before you apply, PLEASE make sure that your child(ren) can participate in ALL 8 days of camp AND can handle virtual instruction for age-appropriate projects.

Families will be notified regarding application status by June 5.
