Diverse learners needs are met in the classroom through differentiated instruction. Teachers rely on a range of instructional strategies to differentiate content, process and/or work products in response to individual learners’ needs, passions, strengths and interests.
Enhancing Student Literacy
South Orangetown utilizes a readers and writers workshop model of instruction aligned with Common Core Learning Standards to strengthen literacy. An instructional focus on comprehension, fluency and the development of reflective and critical thinking skills supports students in becoming effective writers across all content areas.
Fostering a Respectful Learning Environment
The district actively promotes a school culture in which all students, faculty and staff are respected. Through an array of practices, programming and partnerships, the district fosters safe, secure learning environments in which students are provided with opportunities to become successful, connected, responsible and respectful citizens.
Providing Students with Skills for the 21st Century
South Orangetown students are provided with opportunities across all grade levels that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.
