Curriculum Council/Professional Development Committee

Curriculum Council

The Curriculum Council is a standing advisory committee to the Superintendent that has as its primary goal the ongoing improvement of the district’s educational program. Through its review of proposed program changes and additions and proposed committee charges, the Council seeks to:

  • Provide students with rigorous educational programs
  • Support the district’s mission, goals and priorities, and
  • Meet and exceed New York State standards

Council meetings are open to the public.

Meeting Dates

Curriculum Council meetings for the 2017–2018 school year have been scheduled for October 11, December 14 and April 19. All meetings will be held in the SOMS library from 4:00–5:30 pm.

Members

  • Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, Chairperson
  • Parents/Community Members*: 1 per school + 2 at-large parents or community members
  • Teachers: 1 per school + 2 at-large teachers
  • Administrators: 1 elementary, 1 middle + 1 high school administrator
  • Central Administration: 1 member
  • Board of Education: 1 member

*Parent and community members are nominated by PTA.

Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee reviews activities targeting the achievement of teaching and learning goals and recommends adjustments according to the most recent New York State Education Department Commissioner’s Regulations, the district’s Professional Development Plan and teachers’ current needs.

Meeting Dates

Professional Development Committee Meetings for the 2017–2018 school year have been scheduled for October 25, February 15 and May 17. All meetings will be held in the SOMS library from 4:00–5:30 pm.

  • Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, Chairperson
  • Parent/Community Member*: 1 member representing K-12
  • Teachers: 1 elementary, 1 middle school + 1 high school member
  • Administrators: 1 elementary, 1 middle school, 1 high school member
  • Central Administration: 1 member each for Human Resources, Special Education and Technology
  • Board of Education: 1 member

*Parent/community member is nominated by PTA.
