Curriculum and Instruction

The Math Leadership Team (K-12) met to create and revise pacing calendars for the units of study for next year to align them to the New York ELA State Standards. They also prepared to share the revised scope and sequence with the teachers at their schools.

Then, the team looked at the computer based testing that is scheduled to start in 2020 for the 3-8 Math and ELA assessments. Teachers had a chance to test out the math tool bar that will be available for the students to use and show their work with when answering extended response questions. We will continue to research how we can best prepare the students for using these computer based tools.

Secondary math teachers worked on aligning their course outlines with the Next Generation Math Learning Standards, which will be fully implemented in the Fall of 2020. Elementary teachers worked on creating and revising problem based learning units and updating math fluency assessments.

Our current kindergarten students will be the first cohort to sit for the new 3rd grade assessments aligned to the Next Generation Learning Standards. This assessment is scheduled to be administered in the Spring of 2021. Elementary teachers have already begun to make shifts in their units to eliminate any potential gaps in students missing content.

We concluded by planning for summer curriculum work and identifying some goals and topics for the leadership team to focus on next year.
